 St Mary’s Cathedral occupies a unique position in the life of the City of Sydney and in the Catholic Church in Australia. It is the spiritual home of Sydney's Catholic community and a vital part of the present spiritual and cultural life of the city and the nation.
St Mary’s Cathedral is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the role of Assistant Sacristan. The Assistant Sacristan is accountable to the Sacristan and will be responsible for the preparation of liturgical celebrations including arrangement of the books, preparation of the vestments, liturgical vessels and instruments, and liaising with ministers and others involved in liturgical celebrations. The Assistant Sacristan ensures the Cathedral is kept in good order, and that the Sanctuary, furnishings, and decorative objects are maintained.
This position is a full time role working Mondays and Tuesdays, 10am to 6.30pm and Wednesdays to Fridays 7.30am to 4pm. The position is based at St Mary’s Cathedral.
The ideal person will preferably be an instituted Acolyte who has a strong commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church; relevant experience in a similar role; an understanding of the Catholic liturgy, the content and norms of the principal liturgical books and the liturgical calendar; a professional manner and presentation; experience working with volunteers; the ability to deal sensitively and diligently with all matters; and the ability to act with discretion and maintain complete confidentiality.
