 Assistant Pastoral Care Worker
Australian Sudanese Catholic Community St Bakhita Centre
The St Bakhita Centre provides pastoral care and support to the Australian Sudanese Catholic Community in Sydney and to those arriving from Southern Sudan in resettlement.
The Assistant Pastoral Care Worker will work closely with the Pastoral Care Worker and committee of support people at the Centre to provide pastoral care and support to the Sudanese Catholic Community and specifically to the Sudanese men, upholding and strengthening the Catholic faith and life of the Community in this work, and to encourage various forms of ministry within the Catholic community as directed by the Episcopal Vicar for Immigration. Key to this role will be person’s ability to establish and maintain a strong and trustworthy working relationship with the Community.
This position is a part time role working 3 days per week and will be based at Homebush West.
The ideal person will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church; relevant work experience in a similar role; tertiary qualifications relevant to the role; language skills in Arabic and another Sudanese language; working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; sound communication skills; professional manner and presentation; an ability to operate with discretion and to maintain complete confidentiality; and a current New South Wales driver’s licence.
